If CCNY is going to get back on the winning side of things, they’re going to have to start scoring goals, and doing so very soon.

The Beavers (1-2-0) dropped a hard fought match 1-0 against the Violets of New York University Wednesday night at Gaelic Park in Riverdale. NYU’s Idy Watt tallied the only goal of the match in the 55^th minute as Bryan Walsh lofted a cross over to Watt inside of City’s six-yard box which he tapped in on the first touch, beating goalkeeper Maxwell Berkow at the far post.

Despite a well-played first half by both teams, especially City, the Beavers spent a majority of the second half in their defensive third, holding off a barrage of attacks by the Violets. While City held their own – minus the lone goal in the second half – the Beavers were once again shut down offensively, totaling just 10 shots for the match (four on goal). NYU had 18 shots on the night (five on goal).

“It’s very frustrating seeing that we can’t get forward,” Berkow mentioned. “But our midfield, our forwards are getting better than last year, and although we didn’t have a goal to show for it this time, their goalie made a great save at the end there.”

Berkow recorded three saves on the night, his lowest save total in a game this season. He’s yet to record a clean sheet in the early goings.

“We had a few opportunities,” he said. “They had a lot of men back swarming and they had a lot of subs to catch up. We found holes and were able to expose them, but their constant rotational players kept getting kids who can hustle back and cover and prevent lots of those holes from staying open for very long.

“They just had more time on the ball in the second half.”

City’s scoreless drought extends to 141 minutes with their last goal coming in the 39^th minute against Maritime in their 4-3 loss on Saturday.

The Beavers will have one more shot before conference play begins to get things right in the offensive attack when they travel to Purchase College on Friday. They open CUNYAC play at York College at Aviator Field on Sept. 18.
